| you prolly won't see 34MB/s anyway. that's for a WD special edition, but you should be getting a lot more than 19. have you disabled SMART and acoustic management? though they shouldn't make *that* much difference.
try another cable, and also try HDSPEED by george breese - one option tests the bandwidth by constantly re-reading the first sector, which then just gets returned from the cache. should show if your ATA connection is performing correctly (should show around 93-95MB/s for ATA100), or if you have a bad cable.
