Win2K Logon screen in WinXP
A tweak to revert to the logon screen like that in Windows 2000 and earlier Windows versions of Windows.
Before you start make a note of the Usernames on your computer and that your account has Administration rights.
1. Open My Computer
2. Click on Control Panel in the 'Other places' panel to your left.
3. Open User Accounts
4. Then click Change the way users log on or log off.
5. And click on Use the Welcome Screen so the Tick is no longer visible.
6. Lastly click Apply Changes
How to change IE title.
How to change the Internet Explorer tiltle?
1. start ->run-> gpedit.msc
2. choose User Configuration, Windows Settings, Internet Explorer Maintainance, Browser User Interface, and doubleclick Browser Title.
3. Activate Customize Title Bars, and type something in there. Doesn't matter what. Let's type: QWERTY. Click Okay.
4. Fire up Reg editor. (start, run, regedit)
5. goto HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main.
6. Look for the key: Window Title. There you'll find the value: Microsoft Internet Explorer provided bt QWERTY.
7. Change this key to anythig you like and exit regedit.
8. Fire up IE and look at the titlebar!
WinXP security: If you don't do steps 1 to 3, you won't find the Window Title key!
Rename the Recycle Bin
Open up your favorite plain text editor (notepad, for example) and copy the following text into a new file:

"Attributes"=hex:50,01,00,20
"CallForAttributes"=dword:00000000
Now save this text file as a .reg file, such as "Rename Recycle Bin.reg" and put it wherever you like. Double click on the file, and when it asks you if you want to import it into the registry, choose Yes. You'll notice a new option in the right-click menu to Rename the Recycle Bin. You can also rename it by highlighing the Bin and hitting F2, or by highlighting it and clicking on the file name (just like renaming any other file.
If you want to turn off this new feature, make another .reg file with the same content as above, but change the first number in the "Attributes"=hex: line from 50 to 40 and import that file into the registry.
Change the web browser icon in the Start Menu.
To change the web browser icon in the Windows XP Start menu:
1. Click on "Start" and go to "Run..."
2. In the run dialog type "regedit"
3. Go to: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInte rnet\" by expanding the appropriate branches of the tree.
4. Select the web browser that you are currently using.
5. You can now modify the (default) key and rename the shortcut to whatever you want.
6. To change the icon expand the selected client and click on "DefaultIcon".
7. Change the (default) key to point to the icon file of your choice by double-clicking it. If you are going to use a file with multiple icons inside you should specify with a comma after the target the index number. (eg. C:\icons.exe, 2)
8. Reboot your computer for the changes to take effect.
Remove Recycle Bin from the desktop
Go to START > RUN
Type GPEDIT.MSC
Navagate to USER CONFIGURATION >ADMINISTRATIVE TEMPLATES >Click on DESKTOP,
On the right hand plane find " Remove Recycle Bin icon on the desktop "
Double left click on it to ENABLE it.
Re-Enable Folder Protection
Start Regedit.
Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\
WebView\BarricadedFolders
Once there locate the folder that you want to turn the protection back on.
Right click on them and select Modify
Change the value to 1
Reboot your computer.
Remove "Shared Documents" Folder from My Computer
Start regedit.
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace\Deleg ateFolders.
Locate the key {59031a47-3f72-44a7-89c5-5595fe6b30ee}.
Right click on it and select delete.
After a reboot is is gone!
Enable Cleartype for Welcome Login Screen
Start regedit.
Navigate to HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop.
Locate the key FontSmoothingType.
Change the value to 2.
Restart.
Select theme and color scheme for login screen.
Start regedit.
Navigate to HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Cur rentVersion\ThemeManager
Locate the key NormalColor
Right Click on it and select modify.
Change where it says "NormalColor" to "Metallic"
Click Ok, and exit regedit
Restart
