2.6.0 Released

I just got that email from linux-kernel-announce@hera.kernel.org that we've all been waiting for:

Quote:
Linux kernel version 2.6.0 has been released. It is available from:
Patch: ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kerne...atch-2.6.0.bz2
Full source: ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kerne...-2.6.0.tar.bz2
Linus' official announcement started with the phrase "The beaver is out of detox," following a series of beaver-themed release names. For those of you who haven't been following the 2.5/2.6 development, a guide is available at http://kniggit.net/wwol26.html. The full source, of course, is available from kernel.org (the patch listed above is from the previous -test11 release), so get to it!

Of course, many of you will be ready to ask how stable it is. I've been running various versions of 2.6 since -test2, and haven't encountered any problems yet (most of the bugs fixed since then didn't really impact my system). And then, of course, you have the autogenerated banner confirming my opinion:
Quote:
The latest stable version of the Linux kernel is: 2.6.0 2003-12-18 03:04 UTC F V C Changelog
Also, I suggest that the linux mascot be officially changed to a beaver, despite the recent detox scandal.
