| Galaxy Quest. I saw this movie a few years ago, but I ordered it from Amazon while ordering a bunch of pilates videos. I figured I may as well get something to entertain myself after all the gut burning pilates stuff. Anyway, Galaxy Quest is better the second time around.
SPOILERS
In case you didn't see it, the movie is about a Jason Nesmith who plays Commander Peter Quincy Taggert on a TV show called Galaxy Quest. Galaxy Quest is an obvious knockoff of Star Trek. The movie starts at a Galaxy Quest convention, like those Star Trek conventions, where a bunch of fans show up to see the Captain and the crew talk about the show and sign autographs.
During the convention, a bunch of aliens show up. The aliens have mistaken the show's transmissions for "historical documents" and believe that the events of the show are real. They have come to ask for aid from Captain Taggert. A bunch of hilarious events occur which all spoof the old Star Trek series.
Eventually, the crew of the Protector gets the upper hand on the bad guy with some help from their diehard "fans," the only people who know the anatomy of the spaceship. The beauty of Galaxy Quest is that it spoofs Star Trek without being too mean about it. The Tim Allen character is perfect, a guy still living out the show even though it faded into reruns 16 years ago. The rest of the cast, especially Sigourney Weaver in a comic bimbo turn, is also fantastic. Pay particular attention to the guy who plays Mathasar, he should have his own show. |
