The OS was compiled without frame pointers. I'll install suse91 this evening and try to replicate your issues. It looks like it died going into screensaver mode - it'll do this if you've set it to use an opengl screensaver and either don't have opengl support, or have a badly/improperly installed one.
Was there any output after typing "modprobe forcedeth" ?
What about if you type
as root into the shell after the modprobe command? That lists kernel messages...
