For some reason 1024 is that max resolution for any LCD when playing LOTR:BFME. If you have a CRT, then the full range of resolutions should be open to you.

I fixed it by manually editing the options.ini file found in:

C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\My Battle for Middle-earth Files

As for the spell crash, this seems to be apparent in all drivers after Forceware 61.77 and only seems to affect the 6xxx range. Using 61.77 should fix the bug, alternativly, you can try waiting for the next release, or playing without AA.
