As long as you aren't using a quick charger (one that can charge the batteries in 2-3 hours or less), you should be ok. Quick chargers for NiCd batteries use the characteristic rapid change in charging voltage as the battery reaches full charge as an indicator of this condition. With NiMH batteries, this characteristic is much less pronounced, and would most probably be missed by a charger not designed for NiMH batteries. With trickle chargers (ones that take like 14 hours to recharge) this isn't an issue, because the charge condition is self limiting.
