I would be very surprised if changing the monitor actually causes the crashes - after all, the graphics card spits info out to the monitor. Other than the DDC data (what modes the monitor supports), there's no channel for information back to the PC.

If you're still having these problems, I'd try reseating the graphics card.

Just a stupid question here: The PC and monitor are connected to the same wall socket?
