Maybe, the video card can't handle the higher resolution the dell demands.
Did you try backing down the res using the dell to 1280 x 1024 just to check it. You probably wouldn't want to leave it there, being that it would defeat the purpose of having a killer monitor like that. But a test for a half hour might shed some light on the subject. A new Graphics card might be in your future.
