Great, another area for programmers to get lazy in...

You know, it's strange. I remember when the original Pentium was released, and Intel was proudly pointing out that it means that PCs wouldn't need any form of "co-processor" any longer, as the CPU could do it all, even doing the work for software modems.

Now, in 2005/6, we seem to be going back to the "everything needs a co-processor" once again. Maybe in 5-10 years, it'll all be on the CPU. Maybe in 5 years, we'll all be running Cell processors instead?
