I guess it depends on how you define a PC.
Yes, they're both PCs. But, game consoles are not IBM PC compatibles. That's what I mean when I say PC.

What's changing now, is that the OS on a new console can be updated online. So, this gives them more flexibility than before. So, perhaps not so single purpose anymore.

Enthusiasts and overclockers are a very small minority of PC owners. The amount of overclockable kit available is already in decline.

Wait we already have those, they are called desktops.

I only think they will become smaller, and used for much more. I cannot see businesses moving away from them, and many people I know only use their computer from email, word processing, and light browsing.

Gamers will continue to utilise desktops, unless the line blurs enough so you are unable to see the difference in the picture quality. The biggest problems I see is that of buying 2 TV's, 1 for your console capable of computer resolutions, and another to watch movies/TV, there have been many times I have been watching a sci-fi divx on the computer, while my partner watches some soap on TV.

There is no way I'm splashing out on not only a computer/console, but also 2 ultra high defination TV's to go with it and to watch movies.

Lastly, can you overclock it?
I'm refering to home computers. I can't see businesses changing to some other platform, not for a very long time.

In time, HD-TVs will become more affordable and soon there will be a second hand market. In time most homes will have high resolution TVs.

I doubt we will see new consoles which are overclockable. 99.9% of computer owners don't overclock, anyhow.
