Nintendo are attempting to do this with the Wii. They are trying to incorporate PC functionality into your TV by having Wii channels where you can check the weather forecast, view digital camera images, create slideshows, view videos and surf the internet. It'll only be a matter of time until Nintendo release a wireless keyboard for Wii so that you can use email quickly and conveniantly.

I'd definately prefer having a console that boots in seconds to send the occasional email and browse the web rather than waiting for the PC to start up. Even the fastest pc's in the world won't be able to beat a consoles start up time.

But then again Sky tried integrating email into their Sky TV service several years ago, even releasing a wireless keyboard for it. That flopped terribly. But it was on the cusp of computers becoming items that everyone had in their home at that point. So maybe it's about time for something like to succeed now.

The Wii is most likely to succeed due to it's price point. If it can do everything a PC can do why bother paying more when you can buy a little white box that will plug into your tv and be wireless with a familiar remote controlled interface.
