| After so much compromise with inhuman strictures, self loathing begins to grow. It's possible to retain your dignity, but folks who do so are marked for cutting out of the herd. If they're well off they are labeled as eccentric. Others are plain crazy, yet perhaps they can continue their march to a different drummer. If they create a following that challenge They Who Must Be Obeyed it's prison or execution. You need not break any law to be sucked into the maw of they who ostensibly protect us from criminals.
So you mumble or fumble your way through a constricted life. And hate yourself more and more for going along with the Official Plan. Self hatred can be actualized into hateful acts against others fairly easily. Some folks rise above this cycle and retain autonomy, but it's getting more difficult as time goes on.
