True, they only get maybe 10% shorter, but they are easier to route. Once you bend them, they hold the shape.
I hate all the extra connectors that I don't need on a
PSU. I prune my power supplies. You can always use extensions or splitters later. I'm clipping this NZXT
psu down to 2 sata, 1 floppy, 2 legacy, 2 fan, 2 SLI. ATM, the entire top 5¼ bay is stuffed full of unused crap.
