| Do you have no other choice for initial capture? It's usually better to capture to lossless and then convert after any production work. HuffYUV is free, and provides lossless compression. Obviously the original files will be bigger.
Also, see what you can do about brightness/contrast. You might also need to de-interlace, as the source material is interlaced (for S-Video).
