| Four of our (US) athletes show up in Beijing wearing pollution protection masks provided by the US Olympic Committee. Chinese officials greatly offended. They don't like the "perception of pollution" displayed by the uncultured foreign athletes.
Not as if there's real pollution, so the "perception" of same is not permissible.
The beauty of the situation is that we're becoming more like China in our police "statedness" day by day!
