Learned something new

Been to busy to relate this one, Bur I learned something and never underestimate a teenager!
Divorced gal with 15 yr old son, [sold the kid a laptop a couple months ago.) She brings in a WD 30Ghz IDE HDD and says windows says it's a 7Ghz all of a sudden.
I had never heard of anything like that so I told her I was to busy and I'd get to it as soon as I could.
As soon as the door was closed I started looking-plugged it in to another rig and guess what? 7Ghz.
I ran it thru 4 or 5 boot partition tools-7GHZ but one wouldn't read it at all
Test time-all WD programs-a couple report write errors but their man program won't recognize it as a WD drive!
Google and think time. Called her up and asked about her son-he is the gals grandkid and born alcoholic-mom not much good. i asked if he had just started to be Friends with the computer crowd-another strike. They take their computers to class once or twice a week.
My money was one of his new 'friends switched drives thinking he wouldn't notice because of his mental difficulties.. But Grandma spotted it.
Some of you have guessed what it is by now but I had never had to deal with Partition Tables AND MBR!
but i did get around to that and through a couple of steps got WD programs to work with it so now It's back to factory specs and she better put a lock on the darn thing!
That is one of those that feel good to fix-you start not knowing a damn thing, you learn something, and then make a few bucks. And the customer is happy.
