IMHO they have good sound isolation in both directions and low colouration with good bass - the newer ones sound OK but seem a little less robust.

I've found general purpose headphones from Plantronics to be good for the price but I haven't yet heard other headphones (Sennheisser, Sony, Pioneer - in what is now the sub $200 range) that I like as much as the earplugs - aside from the fact that the 'plugs' don't get so sweaty.

I don't think I want earplugs. I don't see how they can handle what I use my system for. A lot of music-Live DVDs and movies.
So I want a head set with a large ear piece to handle the sounds of some heavy rock or the complex tones of some female jazz vocals.
It will be a little while before I can go looking, but I was looking for a couple of recommendations first.
