From a purely technical standpoint, Microsoft are right; having the Google Chrome plugin installed so that you can run Chrome inside IE DOES potentially increase the attack surface.

On the other hand, as others elsewhere have pointed out, that didn't stop Microsoft from forcibly installing the .NET plugin on a lot of user's Firefox browsers.

However, the biggest security threat to IE that is posed by Chrome is the fact that the javascript engine lets malware run twice as fast.
