No benchmarking? But I just spent 15 mins. making them up!!

Thanks for the road map ET., bound to save us time and money on the way to Overclockers Paradise! ":O}

Talk about tight lipped! ET has barley mentioned 64 bit even in private! ( usually I get to hear a few things, especially big things, in advance.)

OK OK! He gave me a few facts, but as usual I lacked the wit to see what he was driving at... I guess that's why he talks to me...no security risk! LOL

We may need a 64 bit Topic!

Poppy0200, you don't need an excuse! Succumb to the great inevitability of technological progress! Ease the way of the coming BORG!

Do it for our Mommies!!

All your bases are belong to us!!

Who else wants to fight terrorism!?...

Ok I was never much at rabble rousing...but this could be fun!
I know individual choices have to be made, parts and money wise...

But I'd like to see AOA and her membership take a 64 bit turn into the future together.

We need 64 bit shock troops! We need Early-ier adopters!
Before the tide of obsolescence drives our brethren to the front lines where hardware and software break down under the obscene weight of the Front Side Bus; blaming each other, refusing to go on!

We need to grow Battle harden to help the fresh meat as the tide invades their homes and villages and the milk from their cash cows sours from the shelling!

AOA wants to be there to show the new guy how to dig in and force compliance from an unwilling adversary!

OR...

I've always been rather fond of the abacus...":O}

The only problem is trying to find a 8HDA3+ in the US. I found one source @ $120.00, but their reviews are not good and many people never receive their items they bought...

Since I only buy Epox (I have 5 in service right now, the oldest is 8RDA+) I need to find somewhere to buy one.

Still comparing the reviews of the 3000 and 3200 A64 chips. The 3000 is a screemer!!

Go to:

http://www.pricewatch.com/

and run a search on:
EPoX EP-8HDA3

Only two, a bit pricey, but available! ":O}

Stupid question I guess, but can you install a 32bit OS on one of these 64bit chips? Just want to install a dual boot for those devices I don't have 64bit drives for, or will those devices still install, if you had an existing 32bit XP driver?

Ok, so that's two questions, not one!

Thirdly! - where can I get one from in the UK, I can't see to find any! (assuming my 4G4A+ board is dead).

Yes! That's the 64's greatest strength! You can run your current software (in most cases!) until your upgrade path has you moving into 64 bit programs.

My "Guess" is that Windows 64 will recognize and install drivers in most cases.

LOL I know you mighta wanted more but it is plenty fast for me but you can raise the bus speed up to around 220-230 stabily I have been reading on a whole lot of websites for different O/C's. MOBO stable as a rock no problems runs fast! Ask ET he'll tell you so he's been playing with his system awhile now ! I just love the benchies I get from just being stock it's the fastest system I have had to date!!

My first ever 23,000+ scores have been done on aircooled A64!! Put it that way.

In answer to questions of OS raised by SteveMG from my hometown of Walsall -

You can install anything from DOS 6.22 through Windows 95,98,Me,2000,XP,Linux x86-32, XP64, Linux x86-64 and a whole host of others too.

The beauty of the processor is its ability to run both 32 bit and 64 bit programs by having a 32bit instruction set as well as a native 64 bit mode.

The AMD64 platform runs 16,32 and 64bit applications quite happily.

However, if you have a 64bit OS, you need 64bit drivers (Not tested by me personally, just my understanding!), as 32bit drivers cannot access all of the memory that a 64bit driver can!

It really does whinge when you try to install a non 64-bit-signed driver I can confirm!!

A portion of code in Winzip 8.0 setup upsets it too, resolved in 8.1 - so some older software's installers can be a problem. But you can choose to ignore and generally still get the install done.

No biggie issue - just a case of old junk not being fully supported by something that glistens with newness.
