I just ordered a download copy. I figured I'm itching for an upgrade as it is, and I might as well get hold of something to run on 64bit if my credit card goes a-wandering on the net over the easter holidays...

and it seems a shame not to make the most of the free high speed internet uni is offering me.

WHoa... the new memtest looks excellent... Shows much more info, including ram timings and a fix for the L2 test on bartons.. Not only good for A64, but much improved for everyone.

SOMEBODY LOAD IT TO AOAFILES!!!
I'll do it tonight if no one beats me to it.

64-bit Windows No No's

Well my system specs are:
AMD 64 3200+ @2.2
Biostar K8VNXP
768 DDR 400
Radeon 9800 XT ( not overclocked unless someone has a utility to do it properly)
80 GB Western Digital (Primary)
40 GB Seagate
DVD-RW
CD-RW
500 watt power supply and a bunch of other good stuff (I guess)

Anyway, everytime that I try to install xp64 it completely installs all files I would assume are necessary for the OS and then when it comes time to boot I get to the device identification screen it goes haywire. The machine stalls and funny colors show up on my monitor. I have tried everything that I could think of even underclocking my cpu but that doesnt work. If any of you guys have suggestions it would be more than appreciated.

Okay from your specs you have 768mb ram is that 3x 256?, can you see what happens when you only have 1 stick in. Also im not familiar with your mobo but does your bios screen have a cool n quiet function which can be enable or disabled, i had problems installing xp 64bit without it enabled. give those a try and see what happens, also what make is the psu.

power supplys can make a lot of difference but lets not go with that yet, ahve you tried with just one stick or 2 yet? Cool and quiet is a option you should be able to choose in the bios screen, its not a switch as such

I would but i dont want to have to reformat my system again. The first couple times I tried to install it I got humped in the ear. It was no big deal cause of course I moved everything to the other drive but everybody in here knows its a pain to have to do that stuff. Anyway, I definitely need some guidance as to what OS i should keep using . Are there are substantial bonuses to having winxp64 and what are they since most of the software being currently made is still in 32-bit? I would like to cross over to the "green side of the fence" but my fence is kicking my but!!!!!

I agree I dont even have it installed at present, I did when I had a spare hdd but until it becomes retail ill probably stay with 32bit, its nice to have just not a full time os at moment.

That is probably the most honest thing anyone has said to me about the os thus far. I talked to a couple of guys at Microsfot and all they could do was attempt to play me like a computer retard.

It is worth giving it a go as it will give you an idea of what speed benfits xp 64bit will bring, just about all my apps etc worked with it also, but the lack of ATI drivers have kept me away for now, or until I get another HDD or a Nvidia VGA card

Hard Drive dismount problems

Alright everyone, I ran some checks on my system and found some interesting thing but I have no idea what they mean. I used Partition Magic to check the consistency of my primary hard drive and the program told me that the hard drive was improperly dismounted???? I have not clue what that is suppose to mean but I think i may switch somethings up in my systems tonight. Like changing my secondary drive to be my primary.

A64 3200+ @ 2.2GHz
Gigabyte K8VNXP
768 DDR 400
ATI 9800 XT
Western Digital 80GB (Primary)
Seagate 40GB (ATA133)
500watt power supply
Thermaltake venus 12 cpu fan
5 case fans, just to keep things windy in there
