win XP 64 - security

Just something which came into my thoughts last night.

Will this bold new generation of OS be more secure than what we are accustomed to, or will it remain a constant stream of security updates?

Nope, it won't be any more secure, as it's the same codebase as Windows XP. Hence, it'll suffer the same issues as Windows XP 32bit. It'll just need a 64bit exploit to take advantage of vulnerabilities instead.

Thanks Áedán. I've just checked the critical update catalogue for this and there are 29 Critical updates and 9 Recommended. (edit: depending on which version of XP64 you happen to have )

Well at this point, that may give us, for a lest a while, the same break Linux gets as far as most hackers seemingly wanting to work on the mainstream OS of the day...right?

Or is it just to easy for them to port to 64 bit?

Do you have the auto update enabled? Presumably with broad band?

I'm on dial up so I look at the MS CU catalogue at work and download and copy them there.

It's the same basic techniques - once you've figured out how to break the program, it's just a matter of writing a 64bit exploit instead of a 32bit exploit...
