the AMD64 3400+

Did anyone hear about this coming out? I just read a review http://www.gamepyre.com/reviewsd.html?aid=330&p=1 and it is from January 9th. This seemed like something that would have gotten out faster in my opinion.

That's the best A64 socket 754 CPU currently available. It is basically the same as a 3200, but a higher grade which is guaranteed to run at 2200mhz. It's a bit expensive at the moment.

The next chip up is the FX51, but that is a socket 940 CPU. It's very expensive, but damn fast.

I thought the FX51 was 939, and only the Opertons were 940? I can't quite image what AMD were thinking when they did that, but....

Same here. The 3200 is possibly the best value of the 754's. Close call between it and the 3000.

That's the way it goes. There's never a 'right' time to buy.
