NewCastle core vs. Clawhammer Core Overclockling

Basically, there are two A643000+ CPUs with 512kL2 but one is clawhammer with half the cache disabled.

ADA3000AX newcastle
ADA3000AR clawhammer

I have a choice between these chips and would like to buy the best overclocker. So, you know the question.

Any advise/help much appreciated.

Regards.

CG revision core oc's slightly better.

There is a letter designation defining the particular revision in the stepping code.

I can find out the letter for you in a minute or two.

I don't think ANY AMD64 3000's are Clawhammers, from memory I believe only AMD 64 3200+ and up can be Clawhammers.

I returned my AMD64 3000+ Newcastle about four months ago and bought the 3400+ Clawhammer. Returned the AMD64 3000+ because my XP2100 "B" @ 2440 Mhz was just as fast.

Look at the OPN(ordering part no.) printed on the processor itself.

Example:

ADA3200AEP5AP

the figure in before last two letters in stepping code tells L2-cache size.

4 = 512KB
5 = 1MB

The OPN-suffix (last two letters) tells what revision core you've got.

AP is Clawhammer rev C0
AR is Clawhammer rev CG
AX is a Newcastle

All newcastles are rev CG

newegg is selling ax boxed 512k l2 cache chips meaning that they are true newcastles garunteed. I think they are doing that from 3000 up to 3400.

I am pretty sure the 3200 and 3400 512k's are true nc's. Most of the cut down 3000 ch's should be gone by now too. I am not sure about 2800's, but I think they were true nc's, but don't take my word for it.

Newegg sells both AXBOXED and just regualr Boxed newcastle.

The AX like Goudo mentioned are the Real newcastles, the ones that just say 3000BOXED are the clawhammers with cache disbaled labled as a newcaslte

Are the 3000boxed always ch's or are they just mixed ch and nc's and the ax are garunteed...I would assume the oem would be mixed between the two.
