AMD have recently just reduced the price of their s754 and s939 chips, a 2800+ can be had for less than £100 and a 3400 is now just over £200 so anyone whos been tempted there is no excuse even a 3500+ s939 can be had for under £250 thats the one Im aiming for once i sell this rig

How is that board? Does it have the exact same OCing capabilities of the 3+? Is the board just minus the extensive RAID capabilities of the 3+, but otherwise identical?

There is quite a price difference between the two, and seeing how I have no interest in RAID, that board could be a hell of an intro board for me.

They "seem" to be the same sans RAID. Really I've spent more time getting 64 bit Linux up than playing with the hard ware. HT X4 220X10. But that's just a quick safe setting to install and configure Linux Suse 9.1 by.

What chip are you using? Where is the "best place" to get A64chips online? I've used mwave, newegg, atacom, zipzoomfly, etc. many times. But need a reseller now that will let me choose my revision of chip. Is it preferable to get a CG version over others? What resellers will let you choose that ( URLs for them ) or is their another way to ensure I get the best "stepping" or Code?

Sorry for all the questions, Daniel. I am just totally new to A64, and all the posts I've read tend to overwhelm me with information overload.

I just don't want to handicap myself by getting the wrong hardware, from the start.

Any help would be appreciated.

Scott

I hear you Scott!! Suse 9.1 for 64 bit has about done me in! ":O} I didn't shop for my chip, it was a gift from a friend. But I'm sure someone will come along who can offer you good council.
