d-link wireless, 64-bit drivers

i have a d-link dwl-g510 wireless nic...everything else on my system took to x64 quite well, but i havent been able to find a 64-bit driver for my wireless card anywhere. d-link doesnt support 64-bit architecture right now, and i havent found any generic or homebrew drivers that work. can anyone help out?

Use Linux - currently it has the best driver support for AMD64/wireless. If not, then it's just a waiting game sadly. D-Link will support the new architecture in time.

cant u use the 32-bit driver? cuz isnt 64-bit capable of 32-bit? but anyways here is a little suggestion email the manufactorer(DLINK) and ask if they have a 64bit driver for it and if they can give u a estimate date on when the 64 bit driver would come out if they dont have a 64-bit driver

You can use 32 bit applications, because the 64 bit operating system has an emulation layer for the older software, but you can not use 32 bit drivers with a 64 bit operating system. This is rather like trying to use Windows 3.1 drivers in WindowsNT.

I read where you stated in another thread that you couldn't find a driver, so last night I looked for you....
I came up empty.

Some folks say that card has a Marvell chip in it ( other folks say a different name that begins with an A), so ya may be able to use another Wireless cards 64bit driver utilizing that chip.
Last night all I was able to find was a wireless driver for Broadcom. And an NDIS wrapper to run in SUSE.

Sorry, but I'll keep my eyes open for ya.

Edit: I went to Marvells site, and they have a line called Libertas or something...
They don't have any drivers for Win64 at this time according to the available Downloads.
Maybe you could call them and ask if they have anything in beta form.

From http://www.linux-wlan.org/docs/wlan_adapters.html.gz (which, I know, is a Linux link) the DWL-510 uses a Realtek chipset for 802.11b using the RTL8181 chip. Realtek seem to be a little slow about their 64 bit driver support - certainly I couldn't find any on offer on their site.

This is fine in 32 bit Linux but doesn't work in 64 bit Linux, for much the same reason as stated in my last post. NDISwrapper is a horrible kludge - there is an open source driver for most Broadcom chipsets available (I nearly had a BCM-based card). I've lost the link however - will look.

It's all about return on investment, Ranger. They have to be convinced that there are enough people using there stuff and running 64-bit systems to make it worthwhile for them to invest the money to develop 64-bit drivers. Kind of a chicken and egg thing, ya know?

I think MS plan to release 64-bit Windows in 2005. When they do the driver situation should improve.
