Half-life 2 ?

Hello everyone-

Asus A8V Deluxe, 3400 cpu, 1 GB Mushkin in dual mode, radeon 9800xt, & 2 sata drives in raid 0.
& of course Winxp x64 edition-
Ive installed the VIA & Radeon 64 bit drivers. Except for the promise raid controller everthing works fine, I was very surprised how easy it went.

I have problems with Half-life 2 crashing to the desktop, windows is blaming it on the 64 bit radeon driver.
Wondering if anyone else is having the same prob & fixed it?

Other than the halflife prob, I'm impressed so far, need more driver support, & some programs wont work, but stable & fast.

are you overclocked? it may be that it's more sensative in win64 if you are
it could well be a conflict with the radeon drivers though, they are after all beta's trying older/newer drivers could fix it

No overclocking, I am assuming its the beta radeon drivers, know anything about the RAD drivers?

the 4.12 have an official release..non beta. coupled with the last major update for the game...should be no issues.

Running the game in a 64-bit OS that doesn't really have official support yet may be the problem in itself...maybe the reason i have no issues is WinXP? If there is catalyst AI in that driver, disable it.

wait i dont understand this... =\ my friend he has a 64 comp and he used a 32-bit driver to instal his video card and its working fine... y?

Even worse with the 4.12 catalyst drivers. Everytime it crashes I have to reinstall Half-life2.
After the crash, I try to restart half-life, I get Engine Error, unable to init shader sysytem.

I had to give it a try, but if I cant play games Im going back to winxp.
Ill try again when someone comes out with some better drivers.

I think we have all been there fairly recently...wait until the end of Q2 this year.

Or switch to an Nvidia based product...

CS:S and HL2 run fine on XP 64 with the latest nvidia drivers.... but that would cost you money...

Or just go to a dual boot of xp pro sp2 and xp 64 beta (its very easy to do).
Then test xp 64 with apps and what not, but for daily gaming use 32b for apps that fail in 64 mode.

I had that same problem, here:

Your Video Card is unable to support shader in it's current implementation of DirectX.

To fix this, you may have to run at a lower DirectX implementation:

DirectX Version 9.0 = -dxlevel 90
DirectX Version 8.1 = -dxlevel 81
DirectX Version 8.0 = -dxlevel 80
DirectX Version 7.0 = -dxlevel 70

To set this, just add the "-dxlevel 81" in your game launch properties.

With New Driver From Ati Every Time You Shut Down And Reeboot. I Also Get Error Shadder Int Error To Work Around This I Just Have To Change Htz On Monitor Then Can Change Back And Game Loads. To Prevent Crash Make Sure Setting Write Combine Is Not Checked I Ploay Half Life 2 On X64 Win Every Day Its Awsome The Benfits Far Out Way These Bugs I Found Work Arounds For.

i HAD LATEST NIVIDA CARD 6800 THOUGHT IT SUCKED COMPARDE TO ATI FRAME RATES WERE LESS THAN 1/2 DONT DO IT VERY OVER PRICED. TOOK BACK IN LESS THAN 24 HOURS
