And the insane knife wielding robot is always a cautionary vignette.

"Nana, you are a caution," I said to my 84 year old righteous PITA grandmother. "Righteous" as in "genuine, no redeeming feature."

She's been dead for a decade or more. Do I miss her? No. I miss the idea of a nice grandmother.

Hi everyone, my faithful AMD home rolled box gave up the ghost. I got lazy but finally bought a replacement. Needed to save up for it for a while, too. My second store bought machine in sixteen years, the shame, it burns. Twelve gigs o'ram, never thought I'd see that much in my life. The new i5 beastie seems to run fine, but the fans don't run on the "Auto" setting. Unsettling, somewhat. It's good to be back, glad we're all still here!

This is a store-bought machine, yes, I know, the shame of it. I was in a hurry, so I bought this Lenovo(funny, that doesn't sound like "IBM") box. It sports an i5 2320 proc with 12 Gigs of RAM and a Seagate 2 Tb drive. It runs well but it's making me nervous 'cause the fans only run audibly for a half a second at startup. No smoke or burning transistor smell(Ugh, that's a nasty aroma) so I suppose that a processor that draws 95W(max) requires no active cooling? Cool!

Dunno why, but SETI@home holds more fascination for me. I'm probably unfairly biased and or don't really understand why folding proteins can't be paid for with supercomputer time by Big Pharma. God knows they CAN afford it!

More than a few feet of empty shelves and product consolidation at my local Safeway. My paranoia says that they are getting ready for much less variety, in aid of? Surely not martial law and compressed hours of operation?
Any such changes in your neighborhood?

Ah Hah! So that's it. I haven't hoisted a bottle for more than two decades, but the prices I've glanced at seem amazingly high! $41 for run of the mill booze?
Has bs triumphed over good sense again? The stuff was cheaper at the State run liquor stores, I think anyway. Yes, there were too few of the State stores and their hours were not generous. Paying more must be better.

Costco donated(ahem) many thousands in aid of breaking the state's nearly century long monopoly in selling spirits. State stores were boring and staid, I wonder if everyone knew that the retail price would soar appreciably in aid of "private enterprise?"
Which is always more efficient and less expensive!

Sixty seven years ago today, we didn't drop a nuclear device on a city in Japan. Yesterday and tomorrow we did. Humans, meh!

There was a Weimerauner (sp?) named Sunshine, but everyone called him Weems. He belonged to the bookkeeper of the band called New Riders of The Purple Sage, which was surprisingly popular on the east coast. And a very nice dog he was.

Shazam, is that a fact? Come to think of it, dog's dog eyes are plenty good enough, they're amazing creatures.
