A64 overclocks - what have you?

Just interested in what guys are getting out of their A64's. I'd post if I could :p

Anyway, what board, what cpu, voltage, fsb, MHz, ah, you know what to put down

danrok 6th March, 2004 06:21 PM

AMD A64 XP3000+ 10 x 210mhz @ 1.5v
MSI K8T Neo with latest BIOS update
Corsair TWINX XMS3200LL C2 by SPD @ 2.7v
MSI FX5200 with TV tuner (no 64-bit WDM driver yet)

Have had it up to 10 x 220mhz, but the graphical part of the F@H client window crashes. I am not sure if this has something to do with the AGP port not liking this speed. I am experimenting with this.

bradmax57 7th March, 2004 05:01 PM

10 x 225 runs stable 24/7 with kingston hyper x 3500 but with my 3200 220 is the max

Danrok got this bios from msi's site, think it might be beta not sure?

danrok 7th March, 2004 05:12 PM

I think the version I have is 1.2. Trouble is the Live Update doesn't run under XP-64bit and I have no other OS installed on it. I can update via floppy of course.

Did you find you were able to o/c more after that update?

havent noticed any difference really, but havent really tried much overclocking recently trying to get some new ram first

danrok 7th March, 2004 07:35 PM

Which RAM are you looking at?

maybe some more Hyper X but 2 x 512's

I've relaxed the memory timings a little, cas 2.5, and now stable at 218mhz. I think the 1.55v limit on this board is holding it back now.

can you post a picture from cpu-z to show full timings i dont know where to start with mine

Here's cpu-z. Ignore the vcore reading it's wrong, I've set it at 1.55v

Also, be sure to disable 'spread spectrum' in the BIOS.

Here's memory read benchmark.

danrok 8th March, 2004 01:42 AM

Memory sticks are in slots 1 & 3.

Say danrok this is my first glimpse of AIDA32 is it a free dowload? How do you like it?

Here's a CPU benchmark using 64-bit SiSoft Sandra.

Download it here: http://download.9down.com/software/S....SP1.Win64.rar

(This is the only place I have been able to find it)

Yes, it can be downloaded free from AOA!

Daniel ~ 8th March, 2004 03:30 AM

Thanks danrok!

Thats intersting as it says in manual that 1&2 give "optimum" performance have you found that 1 & 3 is better?

Man our server is FAST tonight!!

danrok 8th March, 2004 01:13 PM

Daniel - Is that your own connection? That's damn fast!

bradmax57 - RAM Guy at Corsair insists that I should use 1 & 3. I don't know if this just applies to Corsair memory.

The manual says 1 & 3 will do DDR400 as well as 1 & 2.

This is now becoming interesting, just dropped my vcore down to default and vdimm to 2.8 (twinmos's rating) and now stable at 225fsb, before at 1.55v and 2.85v i couldnt get over 215fsb with the same ram

danrok 8th March, 2004 11:25 PM

Excellent! So, what's your vcore now?

I take it you have 2 sticks of 256mb in there.

I am under the impression that A64's do not like high vdimm, probably due to the fact that the memory controller is on the CPU. A vdimm of 3.3v may well fry the CPU.

Could you post a memory bandwidth benchmark?

think my timings are a bit weak, but then again i guess there set for 250fsb. Yeah 2 sticks of 256mb

bradmax57 8th March, 2004 11:40 PM

just wondering why aida is reporting your mobo and chipset but mine is coming up as unknown? maybe the bios

Daniel ~ 8th March, 2004 11:43 PM

Well done Bradmax57!!

danrok 8th March, 2004 11:44 PM

I'm using Aida v3.93 released on 23/02/2004.

Are you running this under WinXP 64?

I don't think so. My DFI board allows access to virtually every setting, but this MSI is much more straight forward. I think you've done well to get it where it is.

trying to download the 64bit version of sandra but.....

danrok 9th March, 2004 12:32 AM

I managed to get it at about 6KB/s. It's hard to get hold of. I guess a lot of people are trying to d/l it from there.

Here are some results of various settings. The top one is the latest and best!

Daniel ~ 9th March, 2004 09:21 AM

Looks like we won't have to sacrifice FSB speed for 64 bit luxury!

Uncle Bob 9th March, 2004 09:29 AM

It's quite stable as well. Over at another sites I find mentions of volt mods that allow other more brave of soldering iron to run at 255+ x 10 !! I'm not real interested in that, mine is stock as it goes. The newest BIOS allows for 1.65 Vcore. It's what allows 236!
