Sound wuality is on par with Bose's latest cube speaker set, although their Acoustimass sub delivers better/lower bass below about 60 Hz. Aside from that the quality is pretty close (close enough that friends couldn't pick one frm the other when hidden with a sheet of cloth.)
I built 'em about 12 years ago and they've been everywhere - I even took them along when I was a disaster-relief worker in Dade County, FL after hurricane Andrew levelled the place. I'd set 'em somewhere suitable and run some cable from a spool I carried along with, and just plugged them into a car stereo, etc.
