I have my (2) harddrives on the same ide, and DVDROM and CDRW drive on the same ide... it really shouldn't matter, IMO.

Make sure you try another cable with those drives, even try to force/yes/enable the ECSD update in the bios (should be under the plug-play/advanced configurations, where ACPI is also selected). This forced the bios to update new hardware with windows on next boot.

Make sure you have your drive jumpers set correctly, I made that mistake the other day with a new cdrw drive .
