What's The Best 266A Mainboard

I'll be purchasing a Board based on the 266A before Christmas. Right now, I'm undecided. The Epox looks good, but ASUS has one coming out soon. I still haven't heard from ABIT about offerings in the near future. What do you all think?

My signature says it all! Just remember that while my memory bandwidth scores arn't that impressive for a KT266a board, that this is with a slow small cache CPU, this will put it's score much lower than those achieved with Tbirds or Palominos at or above 1.4GHz at similar FSBs. The board will go to higher FSBs too, but if I jack the FSBs up anymore I have to lower the multiplier, and that actually hurts my memory scores because of the CPUs small cache(remember that core speed equals cache speed as well).

Thanks for the input. I've been checking prices and the Epox looks reasonable in that respect as well.

I am curious about Abit however. Does anybody know why they haven't released a 266A board? I know they have one w/ the 266, and that the two are pin compatible. I'd think there would be a short cycle for changing over

Actually, I believe the Abit DDR board uses the AMD 761 chipset, not the KT266. It's called the KG7. The Abit KT266A board will be called the KR7.

I have heard nothing. Abit always seems to be a little slow to come out with new products, but I'd say they'd need a production board shipping by the 1st of December in order to compete in the Christmas market.

I'll likely have to buy before I see one then. I guess I'll go w/ the EPOX. I've never personally known anyone who's used their stuff, but you guys seem to totally dig em and the EPOX Tech guy on forum is a plus for support. (though I've never contacted MB Support before) The performance seems good, and nobody is complaining about stability. Everybody complains about the Shuttle and Gigabyte boards, so this one is decided.

Thanks for the help guys!

i've used epox boards since my k6-2 days, and have had 5 since then. they've always been lovely. i have an 8kha now and i really like it!

the shuttle ak31 also looks awesome, though, and is very cheap.

I've had several shuttle boards in the past, and their quality, to me, seems to be going downhill. I will have to take a look at the Soyo board, I'd forgotten they made a 266A. MSI also isn't for me personally, though I know several people who swear by them.

Yeah, the Soyo Dragon Plus looks really nice, but it seems to me to be about equal to the 8kha+ with RAID and a $50 higher price tag to boot. Just my opinion.

The Dragon definitely looks like a SWEET board. For me though, the price is a bit much. I don't have much use for that IDE Raid either. I'm a large, single drive kinda guy.

If you don't use raid why not try the shuttle AK31 rev 3 , its only about 80.00 and is a good performer.

I used to like Shuttle quite a bit. They just seem to be slipping. I'm also wanting to OC and it seems less friendly nin that respect.
