Slow Seagate 120GB Hard Drive!

I've just installed a 120GB ATA100 7.2K Disk into my new system. When I used Sandra to measure the speed it only came up as 19,000. It should be around 34K according to the list!

I've installed all the win2k Updates etc..

Its on an ABIT KX7-333R board. I've tried it on the RAID ports too with simular results.

Any ideas guys?

Cheers,
E.

you prolly won't see 34MB/s anyway. that's for a WD special edition, but you should be getting a lot more than 19. have you disabled SMART and acoustic management? though they shouldn't make *that* much difference.

try another cable, and also try HDSPEED by george breese - one option tests the bandwidth by constantly re-reading the first sector, which then just gets returned from the cache. should show if your ATA connection is performing correctly (should show around 93-95MB/s for ATA100), or if you have a bad cable.

Enigma, you ran the bench with your single HDD??? that's why.

You will have to run Two of those drives@ raid to get much higher score. Don't expect superb scores with the single.

My Maxtor DiamondMax Plus UATA100 gets about 24,000 with single. not only that, it handles "rediculous" amount of PCI bus speeds as high as 50+mhz btw..

Hate to tell you this buddy, but with the exception of the Folding thing, they don't allow pix in the sig at AOA. BTW, she's a real cutie. Who is she?

I know exactly what you mean, I had a pix in my sig similar to yours the first week I was here. "They" made me take it down...
