Well its far easie to overclock using the front side bus, you are much less likely to kill the chip, or anything else if kept to a moderate level.

1st, what are you using to cool the PC? and what are you using to power it? If these arent really up to the job, overclocking in any form is more likely to end in failure.

Welcome to AOA's Forums, bryan51!

You're in luck, in a manner of speaking. The Asus A7N266-VM is not overclockable as it comes from the factory. No need to lose sleep!

There is a mod that can be done to an undocumented jumper on the mainboard. This will make more FSB choices appear in the mobo's BIOS. These extra choices of FSB are nothing to write home about, but at least you won't be limited to 100Mhz and 133Mhz Front Side Bus frequencies.

The two BSEL Jumpers are just above the I/O shield end of the AGP slot. There is another unmarked Jumper just above BSEL 0 and BSEL1. It is permanently "jumped" with a solder connection made at the factory. This connection needs to be changed to the opposite of what it is.

I read that the permanent connection can be cut with a razor blade. Then the glop from a repair kit for an automobile rear window defroster "grid" can be used to make the connection the way you want it to be. Or a soldering iron will do the job.

Is it better to do the mod from the back of the MB or the front. I've done some more researching on the MB and pChip and all sounds a lot more difficult than I had hoped and MB mod seems simplier but hate having to overclock everything because when you change fsb you change Pci slots and agp slot along w/memory which is only pc2100 and I hate to fry everything but I guess thats a chance you take when you OC and just have to live with that fact. Never done this before and trying to research all options. Just received new PS today Sparkle 300 Watt(pretty nice) was rated real high for price and got also a new HS and Fan Speeze Whisper Rock III Big difference from Stock its monster but quiet and cool. So If you could help with question be much aPP
