XP Agoia 9 overclock

Hello..first post here.

Since I have an Epox 8RDA mobo and an Amd processor, this seemed to be the best forum for me. The cpu is a palomino xp1600+ agoia 9 0224. I am trying to determine the fastest SAFE overclock for the processor.

At this time it is running at 160 x 10.5 and is stable with 1.825 core voltage. I have burned in for probably 120 hours total at different settings...running an open case with an extra 90MM fan blowing on the cpu-northbridge area. It only gets to 43C running Prime95 for hours. Idles at 36C.

So far anything over 1700 won't run Prime95 without crashing at some point. Yep..tried more voltage. I was hoping to run 1743 but that seems out of reach for this processor. Any ideas? Memory is Samsung 2700 set at 2.63V. I am of the opinion this one won't do what many agoia's have done. Thanks in advance for any help.

Most AGIOA's do between 1750-1850. While you could have gotten a lemon, I wouldn't give up hope just yet. First, are your running in synch with memory? Also, while many people love samsung... I've been burned. Mine could barely do 170mhz @2.8v. Run the samsung at the slowest timings possible, and see if the CPU will do a bit more... you should be able to run 166mhz FSB with that CPU.

Thanks. I will give that a try tonight. I also thought 166 was a given with good cooling and some extra juice to the cpu.

Yes, I'm running in sync..memory and fsb. Timings are 2.5, 3, 3, 7. I will raise them and see if there is more in this chip. I appreciate the tip.

No go...prime lasted only a few seconds. It will run at 1660 at 1.775 Vcore all day. but more juice doesn't help much. 1680 requires 1.825. I don't want to run more than 1.875 and that won't let it get to 1700 stable??? Seems it is at its limit for some reason.

Most of the guys with the big overclocks on XP1600' AGOIAs had the Y stepping. The 4's and 9's tended not to do nearly so well. I managed to get 1850 out of mine but it needed 2.1V.

I have an 8RDA+ & 1600+ "AROIA" 9. It will run prime stable at 166 fsb with 1.825 volts, and 2.77 vdimm (crucial pc2700). However, i couldn't run stable without the 2.77 vdimm. Everything else is stable, including Sandra burn-in at default cpu voltage, so that is what I leave it at - until I get a better hsf
