~"he's a computer type bloke, builds 'em for a living." I don't wish to diss this gentleman. So I won't say that he's in the wrong profession. Or that he'd never get a job working for me. And I'd never say that I didn't know that 386SX and 486SX's are still being built. Nor would I ever add that summary... No, I'm much too polite!

well, he only handles intels usually! just stu is a proper gamer, so AMD is the best for that! stu's dad is good at his job, just doesnt know AMD like we do! the heatsink was on the wrong way 1st time i took a look at it, and the core got chipped! i cant see how anyone can chip a core! i havent yet, and im not being ultra careful, just sensible.

If he's a computer assembly type, then he's probably using heatsinks straight out the box. With only two exceptions, every heatsink I've ever seen has come with something resembling blu-tak stuck to the bottom as a primitive ht medium. We all strip it off because it's not that good. Possible that he didn't actually know that's what the blu-tak was there for and assumed that it was unnecessary. Live and learn, eh?

man, if you don't know that you should use thermal paste between a core and hsf, no ifs or buts you shouldn't be mucking about inside pcs. that's basic knowledge. ![]()

It's only we overclockers who tend to push chips to heat outputs beyond what chewing gum will cope with. Basic knowledge for us is "that putty stuff's useless." Basic knowledge for box-shifters is "stock hs/fs work with stock chips. Bung one on and sell it." Quote:
