| "Let's drink to the salt of the earth." Doesn't get much saltier than living in one of China's communities devoted to recycling electronic parts. Next time I feel sorry for myself I'll stop to remember how much worse one's lot can be.

| She regretted the loss of a corrupted way of life...she dared to regret the death of evil...Hence, pillar of salt...a senseless image of a woman where a woman once was...The Phrase ."Never look back.." might well spring from this story. Meaning, never reingage past evil lest you become reintangeled in it.

| Was she babish? One would imagine that she was. It's important that trading her for many salted margarita glasses was painful for those who knew her, if I understand the moral of the story.

| I believe she had grown use to the evil of the city and had let it become a part of her. I've always felt the story dealt harshly with her on the literal level. I mean her husband's gone mad! He's dragging her and her two daughters up a mountain and into wilderness in the middle of the freaking night! He's raving about about the evil and corruption and the destruction of the people below! The man is obviously terrified by what he says is coming...but what!? What could threaten an entire city!? He didn't even let her bring food or water!! She was no more prepared to face the wilderness than a middle class house wife from Seattle! Perhaps she just had to see what was befalling everyone she ever knew! Yet her Husband gave her but one commandment..."Don't look back, don't regret the loss of all that evil practices gained for you." In the mean time Lot's (The last just man in the city) own family is tainted by the city's corruption. We see how bad it was when even after their mother is turn to salt, both daughters, without husbands now and desiring children, get him drunk and take turns sleeping with him....(I've wondered if the mother was taken more for her bad influence on her daughters than for a momentary weakness... but I read the texts only in English...":O} Clearly the Jews had a long journey ahead of them...before they would walk humbly with their God...

| I barely know who Lot was and didn't know that his daughters were such bad uns. No doubt, most humans have a very long way to go to become virtuous, not just the Jews. Maybe they had a head start, it's called the old testament for a reason. I resent the fire and fury "god" created by the desert religions, tbh. Yet I can see the need for a scary deity, I suppose.

| and what sustains both in their error, a fear justice might prevail...For if either truely sough her mediation, Demoracy where by all men might be reguraded as equal in power, and personal wealth, where in all men tend to differ, might at last be wed and know union and nation for the first time....

| Just doesn't sound American. But seriously, I can't imagine a world like that. Are humans capable of withstanding so much honesty? I used to think so, but a more seasoned me is doubtful.
