And their film was not as original as I'd like it to be. I left Viet-Nam 41 years ago last Monday. And they expect today's soldiers to do more than two tours. Poor kids, we're allowing them to be scrawed into dust. Ain't right!

Wow, you were in Viet-Nam were you? Don't know what your role was (don't need to), but I'm impressed. I was one of those college kids that parlayed their student deferment into a lucky high number lottery draw. Kent State went down in my freshman year and I was one of many that were highly agitated about what was happening over there (definitely hurt my grades) -- that was the time of the push into Cambodia. It was a terrible time, but clearly more terrible for those in Viet-Nam, including the civilian Vietnamese, than for those State-side. Whatever your role, my salutations sir!

So glad you made it home...so many didn't...there is no end to sorrow in this world...

I wasn't brave enough to hitchhike to Canada or swim to Sweden with fifteen bucks to my name. My hat is off to those that did! You can't really know without being there yet it seems to me that today's wars are worse or much worse for the kids we bribe to fight them.

Old men create the wars while young men suffer and die in them. Isn't that enough of condemnation for even idiots to understand? Another eight hundred pound gorilla in the center of the room.

It's the young men that believe in honor and duty, it's the old men that distill it down to profit! The wealth of today's USA was built off the backs of the young and idealistic.

Maybe today's wealth is created by the powerless, only to be enjoyed by the PTB? Seems that way. Money flows uphill at an incredible rate, but how will they profit when the rest of us are dead? Dark, who me?

Even after Tom Wolfe's excellent book there are those that believe they are "masters of the universe." What a tiny "universe" theirs truly is.

Even though it pushes peasants under its juggernaut wheels rather well.

Oiled by peasants' blood. Was it ever this way?

Was it ever not? The French Revolution and beheading of Louis 16th by guillotine on 21 January 1793 was the exception, not the rule.

Sorry for a second response, but I'm guessing you guys are aware our gov't has again been shut down as of 12pm Monday (at huge daily expense). The Repubs seem to hate the hopes and dreams of the less wealthy of society (they being most of society). Congressional Repubs appear largely intent on driving this country deep into the ground. Perhaps this isn't the case in every case, but the effect is much the same. Are we Americans, or something else? I'm thinking the Repubs are very much something else, they really don't care about the people who actually enable America to achieve! ! Perhaps it's time to cash in the hand?

It's said that a "revolution" is impossible without the solid support of the middle class. Dash of chilled water here, said middle class is shrinking by the tens of thousands every day. At least we know we're in good hands with Allstate. Er, our Republican President.
The Tories accusing him of Socialist leanings are not in touch with reality. All presidential efforts are pledged to the well being of the very wealthy. Sad, but true.

If only this were the end of the rich and their finger puppets the Republicans and Democrats.;...it will have been worth it...

"We've got to get something out of this!"

Above overheard from a Republican House member. Surely, no partisan extortion/blackmail attempt should go unrewarded -- how about the bill for the cost of the forced shutdown (surely makes more sense than the taxpayers being stuck with it)?

But the little people must pay until it really hurts. It is the order of things...
That's the start of a cool quote from Star Trek, Deep Space Nine. Wish I could remember the rest of it

they pay until it hurts, they hurt until they rebel, they rebel until revolution has done it's work.... there's no use in trying to hurry what comes in it's own time.

Google is no hope in recalling the cool quote from a battle slave in Deep Space Nine. If only I hadn't thrown out the complete series in a fit of last minute cleanliness. Next to godliness my butt.

If cleanliness is next to Godliness, then Satan had me firmly in his palm a long time ago. I preside over a supremely disorderly environment (or perhaps I merely coexist?)

Disorder to the stranger's eye, yet you know where everything is? If so, das is nicht disorderly at all.
