IDE Hdd on SATA Connector?

Just got the Abit NF7S rev2 and was wondering if anyone knows if it's actually worth setting up the hard drive on the SATA connector or is there no real performance gain in practice? Its a maxtor Diamond8 7200 30Gb.

Thanks in advance.

In terms of benchmarking, I noticed an improvement. However, in my case, I got frustrated with detection issues, and ended up disabling it. I bm'd using 2 8meg cache Maxtors, the 80 gig was much faster in ATTO (using SATA)... but I could never get the 160gig recognized on SATA so I ended up using a pci controller for both.

I wondered the same, but ive read on other pages that you get no performance gain unless you have a SATA specific drive, i didnt bother in the end
