Has anyone gotten an xp2500+ that didn't overclock to at least 3200+ (2.200 MHz.) ? They are 5 times the price. Oh, a good question from a co-worker, What do the xp3200+ chips overclock up to ? I am curious also.

Folks have failed to get up that high on none a-bit boards... Duplicates question I just possed in another thread but has anyone failed to hit 3200+ with an abit and the 2500+ barton?

If so please name your stepping and if possible week number. We should then get an idea which if any of the cores are giving weak clockability.

Hello.

I've seen plenty of 2500+ CPUs that are unable to work at 3200+ speeds with the stock voltage. Actually I think more than half can't do that. It's not a motherboard problem, so don't blame Abit or Epox or anyone else, the CPUs are just unable to handle it.

Also, by experience, the Barton steppings are very inconsistent, you can't ever find which is good. That is, 2 CPUs from the same stepping can be entirely different. I think the best overclockers came from the AQXDA line. The AQXEA line is of the worst and most can't get the 3200+ speed, however I've seen some AQXEA CPUs getting far higher than that.

My Epox does 2400Mhz just fine with my Barton 2500+....That's WAAY more bite than $400 3200+ CPU.

Nothing can be guaranteed..I view dozens of threads per day here and else where..and there's a good load of crappy overclocking processors in all steppings. No one BARTON stepping does exceptionally better than others. BUT as i've noticed the cpu's with the newest dates..tend to overclock to the same speeds as older ones but relatively lower voltages. So buy from a store with monster turnover..you'll be likely get the newest available stepping. Or if you can hand pick them then you'll be great. So look around and find the latest dates possibe. 033x "Y" 's would be most preferable.

I don't want to sound like an advertisement for the place, but exCaliberpc.com has the XP2500+ AQXEA 0332 , and the best thing is, they guarantee the stepping. I also purchased an xp1700+ JIUHB:0310XPMW stepping, I've had that one up to 2.35 GHz stable on air. Also guaranteed stepping.

naw man thats cool i love excaliberpc they do send what they promise unlike a few other places ive done buisness with. infact the xp2500 barton i got now was a fup on gameve.com's part they were advertising 0330VPMW's "Y" chips and when mine showed up i got a 0314WPCW?? its a damm good thing that the chip wound up being a keeper cause i was pissed to say the least!

here is the stepping i got

AXDA2500KV4D F371668250001 AQXDA 0314WPCW

i can get 2500mhz out of this at 1.775v and can run 2400mhz at the defualt v-core so i would have to say that i deff got a keeper for sure.

later perc,

bah I have a 1700 that will hit 2.4 fairly easy on air and it's running on a first gen epox 8rda. Durring the summer if it gets to teh 90's here I have to back it off to 2.2 or 2.3 but still it's all on air so it's not so bad. This cpu runns like this folding and everything. I think with a little better ram and some water cooling I could hit 2.6 or 2.7. at any rate I'm happy with it.

As for the barton I had a 2500 hit the 3200 levels easy but the next one I got didn't they reall are the luck of the draw so to speak. Now I have a barton 2600 I'm getting ready to test and see what she will do.
