Unhappy Kingmax pc3200

I recently purchased 2/256mb cards of Kingmax pc3200 (ddr 400). After intalling the cards, I attempted to oc my 2500+ barton too 200mhz fsb. I know the proc. can do this speed because I had just removed 2 cards of ULTRA pc3200 that were running stable at 200mhz. I got the Kingmax hoping for additional headroom. Im shooting for 220mhz.

After days of pushing, I was only able to get the Kingmax too 179mhz with stabilty. I mean just enough to play Madden 2004 without crashing. This speed is OK for pc2700 but ram rated at pc3200 should do what it is rated. I was just wondering if anyone has had similar experiences with ram from this company or is it I just got some bad cards.

I should return them but thats too much hassle. I'll just use them in my wifes computer. Im back to using the ULTRA's. Does anyone have any suggestions on ram that might help me reach my goal of 220mhz or should I get pc3500 and try my luck again.

Thanks in advance for the suggestions.

You can never buy RAM that is meant to run at 200MHz and expect it to run any higher than that. But you should be able to expect it to do 200MHz and not 1MHz less. If you got bad RAM you should definatly RMA it.

(Did I just say to RMA the RAM??? Oh nevermind)

Corsair XMS is ofcourse premium RAM but they also charge a Premium price for it. Others have had good luck with Samsung, and windbond/twinmos.

Our experienace with the Kingmax PC3200 is good, but it neds 2.8v vdimm to run @ 400MHz. It will go past 400MHz at this voltage though.

Hello.

Well, by my experience with Kingmax Pc3200 memory, few could even run at their specified 200MHz (400DDR) speed with less than 2.7v. Some didn't even work at all no matter the voltage due to the incompatibility of the modules with the motherboards, that is on a lot of motherboards.

Few words, Kingmax Pc3200 is of the worst modules I've ever tried. Even the cheapest Pc3200 generic modules can run at 200MHz with 2.6v just fine, just as Kingmax modules should.
