Windows xp denying overclock?

When installing windows xp does the os 'note' what operating speed you are running at and 'enforce' this speed?

I ask as when trying to overclock my machine from 1.47ghz, the speed at which i installed windows, to 2.4ghz it fails to boot into windows despite having a flawless post and raid initiation. It even starts loading windows then just restarts.

So is this windows trying to keep my hardware at stock speed or just me overclocking too aggresivly?

Nope... Not an XP thing...
My P4 shows it's rated speed as well as it's actual speed.

Just because it can post doesn't not mean it is stable. Loading windows is only the first of many hurdles to check for stability. Up voltage to see if windows loads... if not, reduce your overclock... once you are in windows with stability, run some tests to see if it holds.

Not a windows thing. And 2.4 is on the high side for that chip. A volatage increase may get you there, but I really sugest baby steps in both frequency and voltage increases.

Thanks for replies and advice, as i said im aware its an aggresive overclock and was just wondering if windows xp pro had anything daft that would not allow overclocking.

Right, it appears 2250mhz is the limit for now. Considering its on an ax7 it aint too bad i suppose, although 2.4Ghz was my target when i got this chip. Im gonna try some lomac and see how it goes. Like i said thanks for advice all.
