Xp 1700+

I have an XP 1700+ w/ a Soltek SL-75DRV2 mobo ( KT 266A) and I want to OC it ..and am considering my options ..does anyone know the "potential" of this chip //I mean is it worth spending money on an H2O cooler ..if the chip can only go to an 1800+ ...but if I could get stabilty at 1900-2000+ it would be worth it ..
thanks

Mine loves 152mhz FSB (Micron 2100 DDR @ 2-2-2), 1.85v. Haven't taken the time to unlock it yet......but I"m guessing I'll get off my lazy butt and unlock it tomorrow after work.

I have mine running at 1607 with a cheapie air cooler. I can get it to 1650, but then my HD starts crapping out so I think there is potential in the chip itself to run very close to 1700.

Mook.

my 1800+ will hit 1720... i think temperature is holding it back tho, as if its warm it dies a lot!

1700+ should hit at least 1600 for most chips i would think

It is never worth it financially to get a water cooler. They cost as much as the chip does. If you are soley interested in pushing a chip to its limits and beyond, well then a water cooler will help you there.

My 1700 runs 1669mhz pretty stable.
Thats 10x167 on 8kha+ 1.85v.

Im cooling with a cheap taisol 760 lapped with a YS-Tech 60mm fan.

I think most XP-1700's are good for 1666mhz (XP-2000) with reasonable cooling and voltage.

Im sure my chip will go higher with more voltage but its allready quite warm 45max load and if I unplugg the CPU fan it crashes very quickly (not recomended testing methodology)

My Vapochill got it to 1775 stable on an 8k7a+. The chip could do 1800 MHz+, but the rest of the rig couldn't handle it....

Well I unlocked my 1700+ and I was right, the Memory was holding it back. I am currently running at 1740Mhz(2100+) with 1.8Vcore and 12x145FSB. Gonna push it till it becomes unstable.

I do not agree. I built my water cooling system for under $100.

agreed, you can build a water cooling system for very cheap, like i did... muucho under 100$

should get a proper cooling for the water this month so that i'd get the water temp near +5 celsius under full load

I wouldn't go that far. Now a days it's not so good a deal, but back in the day when I first started water cooling(about 3 years ago or so), it was definatly worth it because these was such a big price difference between chips, and it only cost me about $100 to setup my first water cooling setup which allowed me to push my chip higher and be as fast as the chips that cost ALOT more.
