Reboot only when trying to game

Ok, I've been trying to wrap my hands around this problem that I'm having with the girls box. It's an Abit NF7-S with a 2600+ in it

Please throw your idea's into the box!!!

is her system overclocked?

memtest & prime stable?

what games does she play? does it happen with any games?

what video card?(and how is the condition?)

what PSU? how old?

more info please?...

agp bus out of spec/ not enough voltage. If set to 200mhz fsb, L-12 mod may remedy the prob.
Can be caused by low voltage on gpu as well.

Swapped mem,
Swapped psu
5200 video card
Just about any game.

is the square +12v connector plugged on the motherboard?

how's the card? Some video cards "can" cause to reboot too, due to hardware failure. not that I'm saying your card is bad, but I would just give another card a try if you have one lying around.

if nothing else I would suspect something with the software causing probs.

I'm starting to think it's software or "heat". I think my northbridge fan is starting to go (tipical abit north fan)

Thought that I almost had it when I disconnected the creative sound card and used the onboard instead. I was gaming for a while but then I decided to reboot and just to make sure everything was ok........... nope reboots again now........ on to the next

I've swapped video cards as I have 2 5200's, one's AGP the other is PCI. BOTH are doing it. Though that I almost had it though, I have a cooler plugged in to a fan header to cool the video card, seems that after I disconnected that I was gaming again!!! soooo after gaming a bit I tried to play with the video settings to get a little more detail in NFS2 and it just locked up.

Very wierd problem indeed. I tried a system restore to back on Nov 1 (can't remember when it started doing it!! ) so I figured a month should be enough time to go back......... nope....... still the same.......
I'm running out of hair.

Ok, flashed BIOS and still have a prob........ funny the bios I have now ONLY goes up to an 1800+?!?!?! I'm pretty sure I've used the correct bios and the lastest one as well.......... grrrrr...........
I just might whipe windows and do a format and reinstall......

running memtest through just to check the mem modules are good would be a not so bad idea, a dodgy stick of ram can cause reboot issues

robing a nice beefy PSU outa one of your systems briefly may resolve the re-boot

As always when trying to deduce where a tricky problem lies, simplify the system down as much as posible and work from there. You can disable onboard LAN and sound that'll remove a couple of IRQ's from scenario, shady IRQ conflicts love to cause reboots and dodgyness in general aswell. Simplify and Diagnose

I have swapped mem and ran memtest on the modules in question. I've swapped PSU's as well.

I've pulled the sound card as well. The ONLY thing I haven't pulled yet is the wireless nic. I think I'll try that one today when I get home from work.

Funny thing is, now it seems to be working "sometimes". I can reboot, play a game of NFS2 and then quit, then try to play again and get probs.

I've disabled "reboot if error" in windows and now I'm getting blue screens. (kinda a good thing) as now I'm getting a "code" when I've having a prob. Turns out it's the common Stop: 000000008e

So I've started to delete things from the hard drive and I've done a thorough scan. Now it's time for a defrag. I'm going to swapped the cable to the HD as well. (all tonight)

SP2 and the agp driver from 4.53 hyperion causes the issue you are experiencing. Just a thought.

naw nf-7 is Nforce2. I would suspect its driver issues, my mate has one and it seems like every time its a bugger to reload. if you wipe it, go into the bios and turn off absolutely everything that isnt nessecary to load a vid driver, yank the SB and G card and anything else that isnt doing anything for the moment. Then load IN THIS ORDER xp, sp2, nvidia unified chipset,dx9.0c,dets or whatever vid driver your gonna use, and then stab the sound card in and load it. then start plugging stuff in and turning crap back on that you need and loading drivers, do the G card last as most consumer ones do not like to be steered around the IRQ stack. If I can be of more help lemme know, I went 10 rounds with tubby's when he first got it.

still sounds like an agp issue to me tho.

actually, now that i think about it, my wife's MX4000 was doing the same thing with DVD's....and that's what prompted me to buy this X800 even tho i have ordered 2 X850's. I totally forgot!

Yeah, could be something with the graphics card. I'm thinking a wipe is in order. I just need to do this before Christmas, as I'm sure Santa is going to be bringing the girls more game for there computer!!!

Ok I just so happen to go down to Costa Mesa today to take the girls out to the big swapmeet out there (it's pretty big) UNfortunately there was no computer show this weekend

soooo on our way back I made sure that we stopped off at Fry's

to get a few things. While we were "browsing" we saw a refigerator that had a TV in it. For the people that really don't wanna miss there shows!!! Pretty cool non the less.

Anyways, on too what I went there for in the first place. I was looking for a Vantec VGA/Chipset cooler. I want to replace the northbridge fan on the girls box as it's really starting to make some noise and in hopes that apon replacement I might solve the problem of the rebooting computer!!!

Here is a pic of everything that comes in the "kit" I got it for $10 + uncle sam.
More pix to come and I get a little farther along.
