LoL..discount..it's my store!

I'll take some pics later of the board, but because i cannot get any 6600gt's, or 6800's, it may be a bit before i set one up. All i have for Nvidia pci-e cards are 5900 and 5950's.

I have 2 versions...A8N SLi, and A8N SLi deluxe. the deluxe differs only in haveing an extra SATA controller(for 4 more ports) and 2 gigabit connections instead of one. Dunno what to set price @ yet....proly in the 250-300 CAD range.

They will retail for approx $290CAD when they come available in UK in Jan, and 6600GTs are now widely available for about the same amount, id be interested in seeing what its like if you get one set up tho

Yes, SLI pertaining to a motherboard confused me. No, I wasn't partying. I'm going mental over Christmas. As often happens during the season.

Sorry boys... the boards were sold by the time i got in the kiosk.

I can describe everything in gooey detaial...we all dcrooled over the board for quite some time....what really stuck out for me was that they included a SATA cable for every SATA port! 4 in the reg, and 6 in the deluxe! only one ide cable tho.

so the question, now that I've seen the spec's, has been answered to my thread from a couple of weeks back - HERE.

I was curious about my pc power & cooling 510 deluxe psu being able to handle nvidia's new sli tech...right now the only thing I see being a problem is the fact mine comes with a 20 pin mobo connector while the mentioned Asus mobo requires a 24 pin connector.

I've looked at the technical details on the pc power & cooling site - as far as output is concerned there is no difference between my 510-D and their recently released 510-sli aside from the mobo connectors.

Would it be safe to assume I could go out and buy a 20 to 24 pin adapter and use that to plug some juice into the Asus A8N mobo?

Honestly, right about now I think I'd be better off ordering a bfg 6800 ultra oc and live with my agp based system for the next couple of years - compared to giddily hopping on to this new technology for the sake of being the first to do so.

It's not the motherboard that is the issue...it's the videocards that draw so much. Think about it....2 BFG 6800UOC's....

Um, i dunno for sure, but...

Older ATX (1.0) power supplies with 20-pin main power connector do only have one 12V line. Such a high charge on one line can damage a PSU over the time. New ATX 2.0 PSUs, featuring a 24-pin power connector have two 12V lines, so the load is split to two lines.

ASUS recommends a 450Watts or even better PSU, to drive a SLI system with Athlon FX 55 and GeForce 6800 Ultra - which means at least 281 Watts just for these items!
note it did not say two ultra's....just one.

Quote:
According to information provided by MSI, using a 20-pin ATX power cable is possible however as long as at least 18A are provided along with the 12V power supply. These reveals are in opposite of what we heard from ASUS, which claim that a SLI system needs much more power than that. We'll have a closer look at that and report our findings.

I'm at a complete loss to understand this statement, unless they are talking about the power connector itself. Pulling a huge number of amps through that single 12v connector will cause it to degrade and eventually burn up over time (similar to what we've seen with mobos that run the Vcore reg off the 5v). However, it's not going to damage the PSU itself unless you are overloading the 12v circuit.

Mongycore, you should note that IMHO, the issue here is one of burning up the 20-pin connector. If you buy a 20-to-24-pin adapter, you still have the problem of burning up the 20-pin connector. If you go this route, I would recommend at the very least cutting the 12v wires loose from the two connectors and soldering them together. Leave yourself enough wire at the connector that you can reverse the job later if you need to, but at least this way you won't have to worry about slagging the connector. Just my $.02 worth.

Thanks for putting into words what i was kinda thinking. I've seen the boards using a regular 4-pin 12v connector(the yellow/black wired type) in place of an adapter (and rewiring the 20 pin connector to be able to do so), and have a stable machine, but this is not what is recommended, based on the connector's lines not being able to handle the load, at least not for enxtended periods of time.

that's why i included the last bit about MSI.
