Stability Problems

Hello,

I am in need of some input on how I might get better stability at higher Fsb. I am thinking of trying some different Ram timings for one. I might also try cooling my Northbridge some. I can get into windows with 11.5 x 220. My computer seems to run pretty cool 42 degrees C and at load about 46 C. I can play my games ok but what is strange is when I am on my browser it crashes alot at times and also when folding is on my computer freezes. Not sure what is going on. When I turn off Folding it seems to be ok except my Browser crashes still at times. I know it could be a number of things but not sure where to start.

Thanks,
Zephr

pull your side cover off and aim the house fan at it on hi, that will most likely rule out heat as an issue

Temps

Hello,

Well I did what you said and it helped. Well not exactly I did add another fan in my case and it seemed to help. So far I am able to get 11.5x223 with no problems atm. I will see how it will do in the long run.

Thanks,

Zephr

1) If you want to rule out your CPU as a limiting factor, then just drop the multiplier to 11 and try higher FSB.

2) nForce2 memory controller is pretty limited and hence OCing with 2x512MB dual channel (4 mem banks occupied + DC) isn't easy (I've had 2x512MB almost from the very beginning) - with Epox boards the max is usually FSB220-230 (1T). In my case FSB230 is 3D stability threshold, although I can run SuperPI 16M even at FSB236.

3) Your memory timings in your sig are written in a strange way - could you write them in the most popular manner : CAS Latency (CL), RAS to CAS delay, RAS precharge, Cycle Time (Tras)? Also, the last one is most efficient, when set to 11 on all nForce2 motherboards.

4) Do you run any modified BIOS (one of the Merlin's) or have you done the L12 mod? I'm asking, because you've got a mobile CPU there and they default at FSB133, setting some very sharp chipset timings.

5) Do you know what kind of memory chips those Ballistics modules have? (Ballistics aren't common in Germany or Poland, so I haven't got the faintest idea ).
