Memory voltage problem! Thoughts?

Hi there,

In my continuing pursuit of a quick A64 build, I've concluded a Venice 3200+ S939 is the way to go -- combined with Geil Ultra Platinum 512MB DDR550 (PC-4400). However, the Geil voltage spec is 2.6 - 3.1V, which raises the possibility of having insufficient mainboard DDR voltage available to drive it.

I had in mind to get a refurbished Asus A8V Deluxe board, but it's max DDR voltage is 2.8V (according to the manual and BIOS). How do you o/c guys handle the problem of DDR drive voltage with these processors that require shoving up the memory clock due to locked multipliers?

In my case I'm looking at around 2.8GHz/10 or a memory clock of 280Hz or so. I'm guessing I should have at least 2.9V on top, perhaps 3.0V -- ideas?

Thanks -- Trevor

the vdimm mod for that board is well documented. The geil is "under warranty" upto 3.1v, but you should not need it. If more than 2.8 is what you need, either the mod or another board are your only 2 options.

I was just researching some "reasonably" priced boards and found three of the four (Soltek KLT-939FL, Epox 9NDA3J, MSI K8T NEO2-F, Gigabyte K8NSC-939) were also 2.8V max, the fourth didn't provide BIOS documentation. Makes it look like 2.8V is kind of standard.

So there's a board mod for the Asus? Sounds like I'd better look for it -- just in case.

Thanks -- Trevor
