Recommend me a CPU cooler

I intend on buying and AMD64 3500+ on an ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe(or some epox 64bit MB-haven't decided yet but i think it will be asus). What cooler should i use ?Tell me the model so i can order it cause i don't know which one is the best. And also which MB u think its better - the asus mentioned above or an EPoX MB maybe ??

For cooling I would look at the Zalman CPNS range or Thermalright XP range.

On a budget, Zalman as Danrok suggested, I use a CNSP7700-AlCu and it's a good effectove cooler, though the fan leaves much to be desired.

O'd personally recomend the Thermalright XP90-C, it can only use a 92mm fan compared with the XP120, but it has no compatability issues and being copper means the heatsink is more effective anyway so the reduced airflow isn't that much of an issue, I've seen some very favorable reviews of it.

I'm playing with a thermaltake beetle ATM...it's a monster! but it works well enough. Had the board i was using die on me, and now i'm out a power supply for a few days, but i'll post results.

XP90. I've had nothing but good experiences with Thermalright. In the US, you can get it for $25.

I'd recommend the XP90-C, but it is twice the price here.

If thats a newcastle based 3500+ then I'd still say an XP90-C
If it's a Venice then a standard XP90 would be up to the task

Because of budget limits the CPU will probably be 3200+ Venice so i'm still wondering XP90, ZALMAN CNPS 7700-Cu or GB PCU31-VH(i was told it was good).
The problem is that i want to buy the cooler now to use it with my barton and it has to fit the 3200+ later. So sorry for the stupid question but due to this (*****ing) budget i have to spend my money wisely and i trust that u would help with ur experience

Hmm, I think the Zalman is the only one compatable with Socket 462, If you already have a cooler that you are using I wouldn't worry about backwards compatability, it's not worth limitting yourself so you can use it now

I don't recomend the gigabye cooler, it's only slightly cheaper than an XP90 and good fan and not as good a cooler

The ZALMAN 7000 is compatible with Socket A (462) and newer 754, 939 and 940 pin sockets. (80 mm fan)

The ZALMAN 7700 isn't compatible with Socket A (462) but with 754, 939 and 940 pin sockets. (120 mm fan)

EXTRA NOTE: above fans can be run very silently and a FanMate is in the package (= a fan speed controller) ! ! !

you should note zalman fans are not silent by any stretch of the imagination, quiet when compared with a typical high rpm fan yes, but not silent or vibration free even with a fan mate
If a silent cooler is your goal then the Thermalright XP range are by far the best options, and their being bundled without a fan just makes more sense for choosing either a high performance fan or a silent fan

so, the beetle is keeping sempron 754 @ 31c while running prime95, and 25c idle temps, room temp is 24c. Pretty good. If you have a casefan in a windows over the cpu area, the shape of the beetle keeps vga ram and the PWM area/memory area of the motherboard cool too. i've got an extra fan on the back, and the cooler fan on the slowest setting, so it's inaudible.

the beetle is fairly expensive, but it fits a multitude of sockets.

One thing you should keep in mind is that they arnt extremely hot beasts in the first place, and overclock fine even with the stock cooler. If you buy an ASUS board, which is a dog for overclocking, it will limit your OC far more than heat or voltage will.

Winchester and Venice chips seriously are not that fussy with their cooling, and run very cool no matter what HSF is on them. If you buy an ASUS board, use the stock cooler and save yourself some wasted cash. If you buy the EPoX, (which is cheaper and would give more room for HSF spending) get a thermalright and clock it as far is the laws of physics will allow.

As a side note, cada I have never seen those little orange thingies you have covering your PCI slots before, what are they and where do I get them? (in blue UV reactive if possible)

I'll check and see... they are slot covers, over course. pack comes with 5 and 3 memslot covers. bought them to match the beetle, as it is the same sort of colour under UV, and i got some orange cables to go along with it.

I'll look into the actual product name, and available colours, they are vantec, i think, but i pitched the casing a long time ago.

dunno anything about them personally, but they are local to you.
