Problem with ASUS A8V-E deluxe and SATA HD!

I had a problem OC:ing with my ASUS A8V-E deluxe mobo. I tried to test the capability of the mobo by raising FSB while at the same time putting CPU and memory settings down. I also lowered the LDT bus frequency to 600 MHz. PCIEx and PCI clock sync with the CPU were disabled. So, the only thing that should have been raised was the FSB.

When I tried to set the FSB to 230, it didn´t start at all. When I tried with 225, it started but with an extreme amount of lagging. After that I tried to revert back to the original settings but the lagging didn´t end. In fact, I had to format the HD and re-install the OS to get things running again.

Now, what should I do to make sure that the HD doesn´t end up like this again? My system is: AMD 64 3500+(Winchester), ASUS A8V-E deluxe, Radeon X800XL, Seagate Barracuda SATA HD 160GB, Win XP Home OS, Nexus 350W Power

Please help if you know what I did wrong.

I tried it again with the same settings as before and with the FSB 230. The result was: Disk boot failure.

Now, is this about the hard disk or the chipset?

What was your RAM divider running at?

350w psu could be a little low, check you voltages in you bios and see if they drop at all

I get disk boot failure often for no apparent reason. Strangely, when I wiggle the hard drive IDE cable and generally give the cables a once over, it never fails to work again.
