asus sli

I am building a pc for a friend using the asus a8n sli board, according to a review you can run the board using just one 7800gtx card, do you need a blank for the other pci-e slot?, and also can sata drives be plugged into a sata2(3gb/s) connector(obviously just at 150mb/s) as this is what the board uses.

any help appreciated

1: No, just put one card into the top blue PCIe slot. The board has a small card that you change to tell the board to use both PCIe slots, when in single mode the second black PCIe slot functions as a PCIe x1 slot

2: Yes you can plug SATA 1 drives into the SATA 2 controller but they will only function at SATA 1 speeds and may slow down SATA 2 compatable drives down that maybe added later.

Razorfish, have you tried overclocking?
How does the board take it?
Does it make the PCIe cards unstable?

On all NF4 boards, the PCI ferquency is not dependent on the the FSB/HTT. Therefore you can raise or lower the FSB/HTT without disrupting the PCI-E speed.

Oh. Just goes to show. You really do learn something everyday. Thanks, Pitch.
